How much rock do I need?

Enter the area and depth to estimate how many tons of landscape rock, decomposed granite, rip rap or base you need.

2 inches is typical for half-inch rock, 2–3 for one-inch. ABC base is often 4–6 inches.
Based on how many square feet 1 ton covers at 2 inches deep.
You'll need about 0 tons

Includes about 10% extra for waste and compaction, rounded up to whole tons. Most materials have a 10-ton minimum. Text us the measurements and we'll confirm the load before delivery.

How the math works

At 2 inches deep, 1 ton of rock covers about:

Material1 ton covers
1/2" screened rock120 sq ft
1" screened rock100 sq ft
Minus rock / decomposed granite120 sq ft
1-3" rip rap80 sq ft
3-9" rip rap50 sq ft

Tons = square feet × (depth in inches ÷ 2) ÷ coverage per ton, plus about 10% for waste and compaction. Quick shortcut: square feet × depth in inches ÷ 230 = approximate tons.
